If you hate your job, I think you can find something you like better.
There are usually multiple reasons why I do any one thing. I’ve been asking myself lately why am I writing about work? Why does it deserve its own blog?
One of the reasons is that I have managed, over the course of the years, to find work that is PERFECT for me. I suspect it was partially by accident. The process took forever and was comprised of some pretty painful learning experiences!
The key is figuring out what you enjoy doing…and what you are good at doing. There are a lot of factors that feed into whether or not you enjoy the work you do. I’ve had more than my fair share of lousy bosses and insane coworkers. That’s something you don’t always have control over, short of finding a different job and hoping for the best.
It bothers me that sometimes people don’t realize there is something better out there for themselves.
After years working in the food service industry, I finally migrated to an office environment…a mellow office environment. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. I enjoyed being off my feet, using my brain, and getting paid more for doing something that felt less like work and more like fun.
I’m hoping that, in the process of sharing my 20 years of work experience (and counting!) that I can share what I have learned. Feel free to live vicariously through me and my varied experiences. I’m working my way through time, pretty much chronologically.
Once I am finished describing all of the jobs I have had, I will get more reflective about things. I hope to articulate and share things that don’t often get discussed in conversations about work preferences, abilities, and “aptitudes.”
